Inspiring Movies - Braveheart

Hi my friends,

It has been awhile for me to share my top 10 inspiring movies with you. Apology for that as i was having a crazy time in my professional job. There have been so many people moving around within my company that we have all taken up more roles and responsibilites..with that also our time.

Been watching movies at home to recharge myself..been to watch I AM LEGEND by Will Smith..but frankly i dont think it is a blockbuster, a great movie. Will Smith is great again in his acting skills, bringing out the passion and desperation in him. But the plot is just too plain for my liking to be a Top movie.

Instead, i was impressed by BRAVEHEART, a dvd that i re-watched over the last weekend. Impressive speech by Wlliam Wallace (by Mel Gibson) that rallies the whole people army to fight for their freedom.

Check out this short video:

How to Find A Mentor

Have you been hearing people saying that if you want to be successful in a certain field, it is important to find the right mentor in that field.

When we were kids, we looked to our parents for guidance. Similarly, a mentor at work can help ou journey to the top easier. Here's are my thoughts on how to find one:

A) Get the right mindset
A mentor is not a career fairy godmother or a babysitter. Your mentor helps you our by providing you with valuable knowledge such as sharing insights into the industry and the company (if you two happened to work in same company), and the politics involved. Armed with such information, it'll be easier for you to react appropriately when any issues arise.

B) Find the right person
Your mentor should be a person whose advice you respect. He or she must be supportive of your career goals and be willing to offer constructive criticism. It's not necessary for your mentor to be your direct boss. He or she can be someone who's more experienced. What's important is that you can communicate freely and both trust each other.

C) Set the right time
Once you have found your mentor, both of you must make the commitment to meet up regularly to assess your career. It does not have to be a weekly thing, it can even be once every two months. If your mentor is someone who works closely with you, then establish an understanding that he free to pull you aside to discuss work-elated matters whenever she sees a need to.

With the above points, i hope you can find the correct mentor to guide you towards your success. Remember not to rush into finding me thou - Find the Correct One!

How to Formally get a Payrise!

Halo,

Been working long in your company? And working double hard to get your Payrise?

Here is some of my thoughts on how to get a Payrise from our boss:

A) Timing is Everything
If you know that the annual review is coming up, be sure to talk to your boss before your pay increases are awarded. If you have just completed a major project or closed an important deal, this will be a good time to strike.

B) Know what you want
Be clear about how much extra money you want - or if you would accept improved terms such as grander title. Do some research to see if your request is realistic for your job scope and experience. Most companies concede to market pressures on salaries so the more data you have on hand, the greater your chances of success. Try browsing the Internet for major recruitment firms (like Kelly Services, etc) which usually provides online salary information.

C) Sell Yourself
Obviously, you would need to prove to your boss why you're deserving a payrise. Make a list of your current responsibilities, Acheievements, Workload and all the positive aspects you've brought to the job. Simply doing your job diligently well is not good enough. That's just what your employer paid you to do so.

D) Confidence is Key
Ultimately, Success will come down to the way you approach your boss. Be confident without being cocky, and be sure to maintain eye contacts and not to fiddle your hair with fingers.

E) Be prepared
Just like all interviews and presentations, Remember to rehearse in your mind how you will open the discussion and be clear about your major points. The way you put foward your case, with logic and without sentiment, and will need to be prepared ahead of time.

Hope the above helps you in your Success.
Cos Your Succcess determines My Success

Interviewing Skills 101 - Details

Here i am going to share with you on the details on maximizing your chances during a interview session:

A)Getting a Makeover:
You need to get yourself some proper working clothes that spell professionalism. Dont safe and borrrow your brother or sister's clothes unless he/she is the very same size as you. If you are re-entering the workforce, ndont assume that what you wore kast time fits or is in fashion. The same will go for your hair, make-up, shoes and bag. Make sure that they complement the professional look you want to achieve.

B)Come Prepared:
Before you go for the interview, do find out as much as you can about the company's history, organization chart structure, culture and future of the business. Prepare a list of answers to the most common int5erview questions mentally, so that you won't be at a complete loss when these questions pop out. Such questions can be easilly found in books in library. Do bring extra copies of your resume, references, original certificates and testimonials and sample of work you have done, if any.

C)Be Punctual
Give yourself extra time for getting lost, traffic jams, or bad weather. Arriving 10 minutes before your appointment will give you time to ctach your breath, freshen up and gather your thoughts.

D)Make a lasting first impression
The moment you step into the room, the interviewers will be silently evaluating how you can carry yourself, your body language and attire. Greet the interviewers with a hello and a firm handshake. Don't sit until your interviewers offer you a seat. Maintain a confident posture and minimize wild hand gestures and actions.

E)Listen
Keep your ears open during the interview. It can be frustrating for the interviewer to ask questions that are not answered properly. Some interviewers may drop hints about what they think about you in their conversation. If you liestenly attentively, the you can act on it and address their concerns.

F)Ask Questions
Lots of interviewees did not pat attention to this factor. An interview is a fact-finding mission for both you and the interviewers, so dont be afraid to ask questions. It's your chance to fill in any gaps in information and issues that have not been adequeately answered to date. It's also a chance to show off the homeowrk you have done with questions about the company's future and strategies.

G)Say "THANK YOU"
Thank the interviewers for the time spent talking to you with a smile and hand-shake. It's basic courtesy. Ask when they will be making their decisions and if yiu should follow up. Send a thank-you note or email when you get back home.

Hope this helps those that are going for interview soon.

Always Know Yourself first before you find a new job, advancing your current one or even setting specific career goals. Be true to yourself and spend some time making sure that you are very clear about what you really want. You might have to consider the following 4 factors as you go through your inner thoughts:

A) Self-Discovery:

B) Talents, Interests and Passions:
Identify your talents and abilities. Go list down your skills sets. Think about your specialized knowledge that you have, or include all the things you are good at.

Identify your interests. List down your interests. What stirs up your curiosity? What things do you find fascinating? What other areas would you die to explore if given the opportunity?

Identify your passions. Make a list of all your passions and loves. What gets you excited and passionate about. What have you always wanted to try to do?

C)Identify your Driving Values
Your dricing values will determine what aspects of a jo provide the most motivation and fulfilling. Understanding your driving values can help you make career choices based on what is most important to you. Go list down and prioritise those values. Use the list to assist you to make future career decisions.

D)Strategic Career Plan
Lots of people tends to miss out on this part which is so impt. A strategic plan is essentially a document that combines all the elements of your career goals and it will includes:

Presentation Skills - Using Powerpoint

Have you been using Microsoft Powerpoint to help you with your presentations all this while?
Ever wondered how to better make use of powerpoint to make your presentations more interesting, intriguing and your message to be more convincing.

There are actually rules or points that we should observe in order to be effective in our powerpoint presentations. I chance upon a very interesting video that shows Comedian Don McMillan showing "How Not to Use Powerpoint". You can certianly learn something about effective use of powerpoint by observing some of the DO NOTs in powerpoint presentations.

Don McMillan gives a short comedy sketch around Powerpoint presentations and the common mistakes that people make.

Strategic Career Planning 2 - Goal Setting

In order to plan our career, we need to do 2 things i felt. Today i am going to cover the 1st Step.

A) Set you Goals

We spend most of our waking hours working. We go through school preparing for the workforce. But at critical moments, we are stumped! Questions like "Can i spend my time doing thr things I love most? Will i truly feel fulfilled in my careers? Will i realise my dreams? How do i get there?" cross your minds. It certainly crossed mine constantly.

Career goal-setting and work-life balance are not usually taught in school, yet if we don't know our goals and plans the steps we must take to reach them , we could end up somewhere completely different. Setting carrer goals charts a focused plan towards that dream job. It's a powerful motivational process for turning the vision of your ideal career into reality!

If you set clearly-defined short -term and long-term goals, you will be able to measure your progress and eventually achieve personal satisfaction. Your self-confidence will grow as you see your progess - which certainly would be hard to measure if you have not formulated your goals properly. You will become more aware of your abilities, which also boosts your self-esteem.

Tomorrow, then i will share with you on the 2nd thing to do - Knowing Yourself!

Strategic Career Planning

At different junctures of my childhood, i was asked" "What is my ambition?" or "WHat do you want to be when you grow up?" Have you been constantly being asked of this question?

My answer was always different. At five, i wanted to be a policeman bacause i thought they look very smart. At 13, i wanted to be a doctor, seeing how noble in them, having chance to save lifes after lifes. I watched all drama shows that are showed on screen, never missed them much.

Then at 15, i realised that being a doctor requirements large amount of time and money - which my poor family then, was never able to afford, and i was never able to afford that long period studying. I then dreamt to become a pharmacist.

I studied harder ever in my last year of school, to achieve the grades that will allow to go places i want. After i took my o level results - i found out that i do not want to go Junior College and to Pharmacy cos i felt Pharmacist job is too boring. So i decided to take up a course in local polytechnic called Building and Poperty Management. You know what! I switched to Chemical Process Technology in the same Polytechnic, even before the school starts. The switch was made after i took a long time break and think of what i realy like. Chemistry was my LOVE.

So tomorrow i am going to share more of Setting Effective Career Goals and to better prepare ourself for the job market.

Joel Bauer - Workshops on Persuasion Review

Came back from Joel Bauer's 3 hrs free workshop seminar on his Persuasion tools. He is indeed a serious person and knows all about negotiation and persuasion.

He started by asking us how committed are we to spend 3 precious hours of our Sunday time to listen to his talk. If we are not interested, he encouraged us to lift our butt and leave the conference hall as soon as possible. He believes that Doing Business is all about Credibility and Building Rapport.

Each of us are by Default. In order to be successful, we need to change to the Design Mode. He also incalculated that the Art of Persuasion = Art of The Truth. We need to speak and tell the truth in order to be able to be effectively persuading others.

In Persuasion - we should always rmbr to: 1) Present, 2) Persuade, and 3) Preserve.

Joel strongly believes that First Impression counts. We need to dress for the occasion in order to be Succcessful, and to have the Persuading Power - even before we speak to others. If we dress casually, people will question our authority. For blazers, Joel recommend that we always choose Black as overall. This is bcos black is able to hide us inside the packaging (blazer. pants) and allows others to look at our faces and hand gestures when we are presenting/talking.

For ladies, he would think the following will be ideal:
5th Most Effective: Electrical Blue blouse/top
4th Most Effective: White blouse/top
3rd Most Effective: Red blouse/top
2nd Most Effective: Yellow blouse/top
1st Most Effective: Pink blouse/top

Joel also believes that Namecards need to be properly designed. Purpose of the card is to Engage. We should only give to people who understands & appreciates that i can deliver something useful to them. We should not be giving it to all people that wants it. Scarcity is Power of Persuasion.

I will be getting his best-seller soon: "How to Persuade Others that Do Not Want to Be Persuaded".

Cheers

Joel Bauer - Workshops on Persuasion

Hey Planet,

Just to drop a quick note that America's celebrity persuasion guru, Joel Bauer will be running a free persuasion workshops this week in Singapore Expo.

Workshop topic will be:

- How Joel Bauer retired by 32 years old and how you can do it in 5 to 8 years time
- From how to make a love proposal, get a raise, to a deal on a car..from convincing 1 person to a thousand...
- How Joel has trained people to get extraordinary income and the freedom to enjoy their lives.
- How to break the ice and grab attention in the first 4 seconds!
- Powerful business presentations to give $ and raving fans who want to work with you....

I will be going for this one:
7th Sept 2007 Friday 2pm - 5pm

Let's see what Joel has mentioned before in last presentation he has made.
The key points covered by Joel normally include the following:

1) Packaging - Importance of dressing well. Having the correct “packaging” could produce MANY times the response. He goes into an explanation of what different colour clothing should be used for different purposes.

2) Why you should not have normal sized name cards like everybody else and how you can make your name cards special to brand yourself. Be Special so that Others remember you!

3) The importance of personal branding and how you can use images of yourself (and your family) in your namecards, emails, letterhead and envelopes. He also explains the kinds of position we should adopt for taking the photos.

4) How to answer the all important question “What do you do?” The key is to answer with a question that helps you qualify whether that person is a potential prospect for you, invokes an emotional response and connects with him emotionally (with some embedded commands).

5) Building trust through repeat and frequent contact with your clients. One way of doing it is through the use of a monthly email newsletter (or ezine).

6) The use of testimonials to build credibility. It just speaks for itself. No requirement for you to oversell yourself.

See you guys there!

Unlimited Power Seminar - Live in Singapore!

Just came back from the Unlimited Power seminar that happened live in Singapore Expo.
I am highly charged now, after setaing attentively throughout the 4-5 hours session of Anthony Robbins' Unlimited Power talk.

I have heard about Anthony Robbins through Internet Marketers, Friends and from papers/radios - but this is the first time that i met him in person. Trully Motivational Figure. No wonder he is known as the World's No 1 Success Coach. A person that is highly respected as the nation's foremost authority on the psychology of peak performance and personal, prefessional and organizational turnaround.

Only now that i know that Robbins has advised and counseled Fortune 500 CEOs, world-renowned medical doctors, championship sports team (including America's Cup Winner, America 3 Stanley Cup finalist, Los Angeles Kings, NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs and other teams in NHL, MLB and NBA), elite athletes and coaches including Andre Agassi, Greg Norman and other legends in Entertainment such as Quincy Jones and Anthony Hopkins.

I quickly went to borrow the "Unlimited Power" book from my friend also, after this seminar talk. Certainly believed there are more to learn from Robbins. Let's start with "Unlimted Power"..before i check out other of his best-sellers such as "Giant Within" and "Unleash the Power Within".

Inspiring Movies - Ratatouille (WOW-Cartoon)

"Ratatouille" is about a lovable rat - Remy - who constantly risks his life in an expensive French restaurant because of his love for good food, as well as a burning desire to become a gourmet chef. Obviously, this is rather far-fetched for a rat but opportunity knocks when a young boy, who desperately needs to keep his job at the restaurant despite not being able to cook to save his life, makes Remy a partner. The two of them learn to avoid the insane head chef, bring the rest of Remy's family up to his culinary standards, win the boy a girlfriend, and of course, produce the finest ratatouille in all of France!

Remy (voice of Patton Oswalt) is a suburban rat who loves good food. His senses are so refined that he refuses to eat garbage and is used by his clan as a "poison detector" since he can tell if something is toxic by sniffing it. His desire, however, is to become a chef like his TV hero Gusteau. He gets a chance to achieve his dreams when he meets Linguini (Lou Romano), a kitchen cleaner at a Paris restaurant, also called Gusteau's. Hiding under Linguini's chef's hat, Remy teaches the boy to create dishes of culinary delight. Soon, Gusteau's is the talk of Paris again and Linguini wins the heart of fellow chef Colette (Janeane Garofalo). However, not everybody is elated. The head chef (Ian Holm), who is jealous of Linguini's newfound fame, wants revenge. Also, food critic Anton Ego (Peter O'Toole) has decided to have a meal at Gusteau's - and on that very evening, Remy goes missing.

With even more realistic graphics and action seen from the point-of-view of the rats, "Ratatouille" gets our interest right from the start. Director Bird has taken computer animation one notch higher and a chase scene through the streets of Paris and onto boats on the River Seine is so splashingly real that we forget it is CGI.

Sometimes, we even forget that Remy is a rat! Bird fashions the movie as a parable about racism and tolerance. The conflict is between rats and humans, and members of each species get to learn a little about the other. There is also the classic Cyrano de Bergerac angle that has Remy teaching the boy to cook (instead of wooing the lady of his dreams).

The action in "Ratatouille" gets along like yummy French cuisine - up to the point when we see hordes of rats invading the kitchen and cooking meals. These sequences must be a put-off to parents in the audience and they could have been avoided or toned down. Still, with its slogan "Anyone Can Cook", the movie celebrates passion in creativity and the pursuit of excellence and it should inspire the kids in the audience.

To sum up, let's take a quote from Anton Ego: "Not everyone can be a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere." Our compliments to master chef Brad Bird for this delightful repast. "Ratatouille" is not as entertaining as "The Incredibles", but it is close enough.

But It is truly an Inspiring Movie...There are certain scenes in the show that we can catched glimpses of Inspirational Words from the characters in the cartoon show.

DREAMS COME TRUE IF YOU HAVE A PASSION & BELIEVE IN IT!

Corporate Jokes - SICK Leave

I urgently needed a few days off work,
but I knew the Boss would not allow me to take leave.
I thought that maybe if I acted "CRAZY" then
he would tell me to take a few days off.
So I hung upside down on the ceiling and made funny noises.
My co-worker (who's blonde) asked me what I was doing?
I told her that I was pretending to be a light bulb
so that the Boss would
think I was "CRAZY" and give me a few days off.
A few minutes later the Boss came into the office
and asked "What are you doing?"
I told him I was a light bulb.
He said "You are clearly stressed out.
Go home and recuperate for a couple of days".
I jumped down and walked out of the office.
When my co-worker (the blonde) followed me,
the Boss asked her

"...And where do you think you're going?"
..
( You're gonna love this..... )
..
She said, "I'm going home too, I can't work in the dark!

Just Do It -The Right Attitude

Hey Planet,

JUST DO IT!

I love this line from Nike...Although these are just three
simple words, they are really powerful.

Many times, we get caught up in the process of analyzing
just a bit too much. We spend days, weeks and sometimes
even months before we decide whether a project is good for us
or not.

And most of the time, after spending so much time we end up
not doing anything at all! What a waste of time and energy!

Don't get into what we call "Paralysis due to Analysis!"
It will not get you anywhere.

By all means, you should do a thorough research before starting
something. But do the research fast, and get going. Do not
spend a lifetime thinking about something.

Don't try to learn everything about a project before starting.
You just cannot.

Can you learn swimming without getting in the water ? No!
Can you learn to ride a bicycle without getting on it? No!

Just start! And you will learn along the way.

Just Do It!!

Remember, success is just a decision away!

Dreams Come True - Only with Determination

Hey Planet,

This is the stuff of movies: a young man, in the face of personal and professional challenges, struggles against the odds and finally achieves his dreams.

Naozumi "Nao" Tsuchiyama, a 26-year-old Japanese language instructor whose right leg was amputated as a child and now wears a prosthetic, had always wanted to become a boxer.

To do so, he needed a boxing license but was denied this in his home country on account of his physical condition. So, he went abroad but even then it wasn't easy for him.
The first time he applied for a boxing license from the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) in the Philippines, he was rejected because his condition was deemed not fit for boxing. Medical examinations showed otherwise, but the GAB would not budge.

Last August, he took part in a trial fight in the Philippines where he impressed the GAB officials in attendance. Despite a favorable recommendation from these representatives who were impressed with his performance, the GAB still rejected his application.

Undeterred, Nao persisted and flew to South Korea to take part in the World Boxing Association's annual conference. He returned to the Philippines with the assurance that there is no international policy preventing him from fighting professionally. This time around, the GAB relented and gave him his license.
Nao will be fighting his third match in the Philippines on Aug 9. JobStreet.com is proud to support Nao's endeavor.

I hope his tale will inspire everyone to pursue their dreams. If there's a will, there's always a way.

Top 10 Inspiring Movies - 300

Hey Planet,

Managed to catch a DVD on "300" - fiction that is based on a true story, but has a twist to it. Drawn from the vivid pages of Frank Miller and Lynn Valery's graphic novel, 300 is the epic story of the Battle of Thermopylae (480 B.C.) where 300 Spartan warriors fought invading armies from Persia against all odds of survival. Stylized, gritty, and graphic, 300 impeccably re-creates imagery from the book while offering incredible intensity in the live-action format

I was totally glued to the TV screen for the whole 2hr show. Whole show was full of high-tempo movements, fights and mind-games.

Truly a movie worth mentioning - It has PASSION, LOVE and DETERMINATION all written over it. Check out the video clip below:

Words by Richest Man on Earth

Here is a good one from the richest man on earth!

As hard as a lot of people might find the content below... I'm drawn to it
as a lesson I'd like my daughter, nieces and nephew to get from somewhere.

: Bill Gates

Love him or hate him, he sure hits the nail on the head with this!
To anyone with kids of any age, here's some advice.

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things
they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how
feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids
with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for
failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will
expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about
yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school.
You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your
Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it
opportunity.

Rule 6: I f you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine
about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they
are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your
clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you
were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of
your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but
life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and
they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer.
This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off
and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF.
Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually
have to leave the coffee shop a nd go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

PS: Sounds true for some huh?, as you read through. Bill Gates is indeed a practical and market driven person. Let's learn something from him.

Attracting, Retaining and Developing Gen Y – The twenty-somethings:

I was busy preparing for an executive presentation for some strategic plans for company where i came across an article from FORTUNE Magazine that was shared by a co-colleague on Managing Gen Y - The Twenty-Somethings.

I had made an executive summary of it and had presented it to my management team. Here, i would like to share with those that are either managing this Gen Y or aspiring to move into management levels.

Characteristics:
Ambitious, Demanding, Question everything, Unapologetic
.

Demanding- They want productive tasks to do from the first day of work, and people they work for, notice and react to their performance. They have high expectations, but they have the highest expectations first and foremost of themselves. They are determined to live their best lives now.

How they look, how spoiled they are, to what they want – even demand of work, they do think they are special. What makes them different is their willingness to talk about it, without much shame & with the expectation that somebody will help figure it out.
No one joins a company hoping to do the same job forever. These days even your neighbourhood bartender aspires to own the place someday.

Good News – going to be the most high-performing workforce in the history of the world. They walk in with more information in their heads and fingertips.

Retention:
They want what their parents have given them – Love, Encouragement and Rewards.
In corporate terms – Support Network, work that challenges more than it bores, and continuous feedback. The loyalty of twenty-somethings is really based on the relationships they have with those directly above them.

Business cards are an easy way to make young employees feel valued. Letting them shadow older employees helps, as does inviting them to a management meeting now and then.

Development:
Need to build tools that not just about retention, but about having people develop skills faster, so that they can take on larger opportunities – a long term goal.

For Short term goal – we need to harness Gen Y energy.
Because something that comes out of their mouth is going to actually outside the box, something that none of us have ever thought about. Give them opportunities. Maximise Resources, Unleash their Potential. They thrive when given Real Responsibility. We need to tap and use 100% of their innovation, enthusiasm, energy, and fresh perspective.
Twenty-something wants to know that they’re on a career path. But it’s not just a question of where they’re going, they want to know how you’re going to help them get there.

Struggles makes you Stronger!

This story has a very valuable moral lesson. It was shared by Michael from Warrior Forum and i find it so meaningful that i have seeked his permission to share with my viewers.

Struggles makes you Stronger!

"A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day he saw a small opening in the cocoon. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and could go no further... so, the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But, it had a swollen body, and small shrivelled wings. He continued to watch the butterfly, because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shrivelled wings. It was never able to fly. What he had done in his well intentioned kindness and haste, he did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes, struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If "God" allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as we could have been...... and we could never fly....... Have a great day, a great life, and struggle a little... remember... "Universe" wants you to fly!"

So often we want to take the easy way out with everything. But real growth comes from persevering through adversity, not by avoiding it. Each obstacle that we overcome, makes us stronger.

Inspiring Movies - 4th Nominations (Be Inspired!)

Akeelah and the Bee

Akeelah and the Bee was a film which truly inspired me as an Individual. A film in which shows a young black girl coming from an urban neighborhood, raised by a single mother, but still motivated and inspired to use her gift of spelling to the highest degree. During my time watching this film, my emotions were overwhelmed with a sense of positive energy in which inspired me to be motivated to continue doing my best in life, and not settling for excuses for where and how I grew up, and the failures I encountered and taking every bit of my not so positive past to strengthen my positive future.

Following are some Powerful & Mind-Busting Quotes that i captured and realised in that movie:

"In a place where dreams are hard to come by, one girl will start a journey...."

"When odds are a Million to One......and Talent is only a Beginning......"

"Our Deepest Fear is not that we are inadequate. Our Deepest Fear is that we are powerful beyond measures...That means we should not be afraid..Afraid of What?? Afraid of ME..Myself!"

"It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

YOU CAN'T BELIEVE IN A DREAM..UNTIL YOU CAN BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

BIGGER Network, BETTER Sales

Been thinking of what i have achieved and learnt for my past 2 and half years working as a Product Specialist in a global chemical company. Time really past, and as a sales cum technical specialist, life is also full of challenges. Was looking in my scrapebook diary and decided to share following thoughts as a Salesperson with The World!

Contrary to popular belief, marketing and sales are not entirley about successfully selling a product or service. Most of the time, it is about coping with rejection from customers (and sometimes internally in office). This is an experience i am sure all people in the sales profession are most familiar with. It is naturally not easy to cope with rejection.

The uncomfortable feeling of disappointment comes at once when a saleperson sees the expression of boredom or doubt in a customer's face. Yes! This happens even when they know you are working in a well-known company. Yet, we are expected to keep up a cheerful look, in spite of the fact that much effort and time spent in promoting our products or services have come to nothing.

We, Singaporeans, are educated from young to always work towards successful endeavours, and not hesitate to sell our labour to achieve that. This is evident right from primary school, when little children put in many hours of study and practice on assessment books to prepare for an upcoming class test. Clearly evident now in the way my nieces are studying.

Yet in Salesmanship, hard work does not always translate into a successful deal.

A dedicated salesperson, who gives 100% in his work, can still expect not to seal any deals nine times out of ten. Callous as it may sound, that is indeed a fact of life, as success in sales is measured by how many business deals are actually sealed in reality.

Hmm. Does that mean that hard work and labour are a waste of time in the Sales & Marketing Profession? Simply, No! Bcos, if a salesperson adopts a defeatist attitude, then it is certain that not a single sale will be made, bcos the first step towards sealing a potential deal is making sales pitches to clients.

We need to build on the goodwill and reputation created by advertisements (Marketing) and branding (Pioneers of company) for our products. What Salesperson needs to work on is our NETWORKING Skills. Networking is crucial in Sales & Marketing. I SAY It is KING!!!
Of course we still need marketing tactics, our eloquence, and personal charisma to convince potential customers that they needed or wanted our products. We need to spend time building a relationship with our perspective customers and find a way to convince to buy with us.

Since there is no way to avoid rejection, building a vast network of contacts can reduce the chances of being rejected. It can also help you build a reputation as a trustworthy salesman.

A Salesperson needs to start with at least once customer who is willing to listen to him and purchase his ideas and trust. This might eventually become a Key Opinion Leader that speaks for us.

So the next time YOU are rejected when you are trying to sell your product or services, take it in your stride. The once deal that you can manage to seal out of 10, or even one out of a hundred, still counts as a success.

A true sales professional should have determination, passion and willingness to sell a challenge.

Take home message:
"Rejection is an everyday occurence in the life of a Sales Professional. Learn how to cope with it"

You Can Do It Too! Passion Wins It!

You will like this one. Newest Sensation from Britain Got Talents competition where Simon Cowell is one of the judge.

Not just a sweet and lovely smile - But i see a 5 years old girl, full of PASSION and DETERMINATION of what she wants!

You gonna love this one...Be Inspired!!!

Lead, Follow, or Get out of the Way!

Phew! It is Saturday again! The day that i can spend with myself abit more and review about what i have done and achieved for the past one week, and what to do for the coming week. Just came back from a morning long distance jog, and have been thinking of one thing - Am I a Mover or a Shaker at Work (Corporate world). Door of chances have been opened to me, so am I to Lead or to Follow? It is really impt to think through what we want in life..I have been thinking for past 1-2 years, but thoughts came stronger last few months.

Leaders don't always lead, and followers don't always follow. Sometimes, leaders have to follow while followers lead.

Team synchronicity means recognising your level of skill within any given group and knowing when to lead, when to follow, and when to get out of the way.

At work, people are categorised by designation into Leaders (Managers), Followers (Executives, Specialists, etc), and the support staff, which are often viewed as "non-critical" to the organization, although this is far from the truth.

However, at various times, any one may find that he holds more information and know-how than others. It could be something as simple as knowing the next expansion plans, the location of the next office, and how to find specific information from database system (i.e SAP system).

Often, people don't share this information, allowing the team or a project to stall even though they may have a solution. An employee may not have the confidence to say what he thinks, because he doesn't want to outshine someone of a higher rank, or because he is not paid enough. It's easier to moan, complain and blame someone else when things go wrong.

Regardless of the type of work you do, sharing what you know to accomplish a task raises you to an influential position. While everybody's knowledge and skills fit somewhere in the puzzle, you may be holding the most important piece. As the solution provider to any problem, you become a power in your own right.

Having said that, it doesn't really matter who did what when you truly believe that you are part of a team. Getting to the finish line is the Main Concern. Here, you would do well to remember Vidal Sassoons's famous slogan: ''If you don't look good, we don't look good."

Leaders who won't follow, and you know who they are, are the ones who are so afraid of losing their power that they would rather corner employees than let others know that they are struck. A fancy designation must never be confused with leadership. This leader will not be told what to do, listen to suggestions or take action, preferring to sit it out. When a situation deteriorates, he will find a scapegoat.

A true Leader must must be willing to listen, delegate, take advice and help staff overcome operational difficulties, as well as look into their development. Employees then will feel confident enough to step forward to spearhead new projects or procedures, knowing that the new boss expects them to exercise their autonomy in the organization. He needs to creates a culture of empowering employees to act with the understanding that they will be heard and their opinions respected.

Followers act under the authority of the leaders. However, they must not lose sight of the fact that they are responsible for their own careers, and hence, must act whenever given the opportunity to display their skills and leadership qualities. Today's followers can become Tomorrow's Leaders!

The key to all this is Self-Confidence. Everyone has a plan for their career future (if you don't have a plan, get started on one!) Knowing their next step, they will be open to and intuitive about their the opportunities that may come along. They position themselevs as potential leaders, are not shy about stepping up to the spotlight and be generous to colleagues with leads and informations. But you need to know also that there are no prizes for merely doing "a good job". Career futures are determined not being a 'good' worker, but by those flashes of brilliance that make you a star. I have written about this in my earlier posts, whereby my directors expect more from me. I have over this two years taken up opportunities and certainly believed to have done well for it, i.e. Technical Presentations to a group of 50 dealers and superiors, as well as executing an executive business presentation nearly perfect to a corporate visitor.

So, to Lead, Follow, or Get Out of the Way!
Think through it...cos only you have that answer.

Cheers,
Sean

Hi,

PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS

Too tired of reading motivational books (so many of them outside) and paying for motivational seminars and workshops?!? Yeah. It happens to me sometimes - too many books to read..Have you ever thought of getting inspiration from movies??? Those shown in cinemas and easily available in DVD/VCD rental shops?

I am in the process of compiling the 10 MOST Inspiring Shows that have ever graced our cinemas, and to share it with the rest of the world!

This one is my favourite: - Pursuit of Happyness (acted by Will Smith)

It is based on a real story of a successful stock-broker in united states, and talks about how he Believe that Everthing is Posssible and that he will be Successful one day! This is an awesome movie that is Heart Moving & Powerfully Inspiring!!! It made me believe that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!!! Art of Visualization has also been practiced by him - of visualizing that he will be driving the sports car, and giving his son a real beautiful home. By the way, the kid in the show is his real son! Awesome! For those that wanted to know about the song at the end, it is "Soar" by Chrsitina Aguilera.

Secrets: My tears almost drop into my mouth when i was watching this show. Now i visualize myself in his shoes - and will work towards my own success in order to give my family a nice beautiful home!

Some Inspiring Phrases that Captures my Attention in this movie:

1) Don't ever let somebody tell you that you can't do something. Not even me!
2) If you have a dream, Protect it!
3) I can do it!
4) People that can't do it sometimes themselves, they want to tell you that you can't do it too!

Laws of Attraction - Success Leaves Traces

Hi,

Do you still remembered my previous articles on "Setting the Stage to become a Leader" and "The Secrets of Visulization" video? Check it out if you do not know what i am talking about. This two topics have come together to bring me recent opportunities in achieving success.

We need to have the Passion, Faith, Will and Belief in what we want, and Prepare ourselves towards it, as opportunities are everywhere.

The problem might be the simple fact that we have never prepared ourselves for that day-the day when clear and attractive opportunities come knocking on our dooor, and you hesitated and gets frightened when the chance is presented to you. Why? Because we have not prepared ourselves towards success.

Opportunities really came knocking on my doors yesterday, something that i have been working towards for the last 2 1/2 years. I am glad to be presented with that opportunity and after carefully analyzing and considering my capabilities, drive and career goals, i will be gunning for it.

Nobody knows if i will get what i want for this round, but at least i know that i have prepared myself all this while, and this is a time for me to pool together my resources, experiences and knowledge to open up the doors of Success.

I will share with you again on the details of this opportunity in time to come, since the opportunity is still rated confidential.

Hey. Please don't view me as a boring person that only knows about trainings and knowledge to be successful. I do have many hobbies. Long-distance running, soccer games and movies are some of my love in life too. Just recently watched Pirates of The Carribean and found it a nice movie. Same for Shrek 3, entertaining and relaxing movie.

PS: Success Leaves Traces! Model after successful individuals and learn from them. When you are successful, then it is time for you to come out with a Novel Model - for others to learn from you..Resonate our Success with the whole world that believes in you!

PSS: Visualize that we are successful! You need that! I am visualizing myself taking up that challenge and holding up to it. Doing an excellent job - and people will be modelling after me, my attitude in life, my Passion and Drive to accomplish what i set up to do.

Regards,
Sean

Set the Stage to become a Leader !

Taking the Initiative as a team member will make your colleagues look up to you and put you on the path to bigger responsibilities!

So you think you are just an employee and should take the back seat while your boss drives you? Well, you should start being the Leader now. The day you are called to lead may not be far away. Your future at work calls for you to be a leader whether you manage a group of people or not.

Gone are the days when you could afford to take a back seat and await instructions from those at higher levels of the organization. With business and technology accelerating at a fast pace, every person within an organization has to pull his weight, and this requires:

A) Getting Fully Involved:
Be a part of every activity within your area of impact. You must keep yourself fully informed of everything related to your work function. You should improve your competencies on a daily basis with the intention of boosting your efficiency and effectiveness levels.

B) Taking Responsibility:
Be Proactive. Stop blaming, complaining, or giving excuses
. This is not an easy step, but it is one of the most personally fulfilling and rewarding ones. An excellent team player does not waste time arguing about why something cannot be done. Instead, he takes responsibility to make it happen. This does not mean you will have to do it alone, it means you are willing to rally people around.

C) Making it Simple:
Help everyone to do their job more easily, faster and better. Communicate clearly and simply. This is a pre-requisite for enabling people to do their job as efficiently as possible.

D) Committing Yourself:
An excellent team player attaches great meaning and purpose to what he does on a daily basis, no matter how important or trivial the task is.

E) Communicating Clearly:
Initiate open and clear communication with everyone. Don't bite your tongue and remain silent when there is a pressing need for someone to speak up.

F) Motivating Yourself:
Keep a clear focus in mind
. Excellent team players motivate themselves while doing their job. They also help to motivate their colleagues and keep the morale high.

G) Striving to be a Leader:
An excellent team player is a leader! Take the lead in offering your services for any task. Deliver on what you must and you will discover that you gain the freedom to do what you want to. Once people know that you dependably deliver on what you are accountable for, work starts to become a pleasure as people no longer feel the need to supervise your every move. Excellent Team Players help others to fulfil their functions as well, whether it is part of their job scope or not. They support others to achieve their targets.

So friends out there, do all of the above and you will develop into an extraordinary leader.

PS: Above are what my army friends (in diverse industries portfolio) and i have brain-stormed and come up with. It is much through observation and thoughts from our working environment, as well as through observations from this one week re-service we had in the army.

PSS: Please feel free to add comments and feedback, so that i can make the blog more comprehensive to share with the whole world, on how to become Successful!

"A Leader takes people where they want to go."
"A great Leader takes people where they don't necessary want to go, but ought to be."

- Adapted from Rosalynn Carter, Wife of former US President Jimmy Carter.

Warmest Thoughts,
Sean

Stage to become a Leader!

Halo,

For those that might have wondered how come i did not blog for more than a week, no worry, i am healthy and still very focussed. I just came back home from a week long army training, in Singapore, we can this Re-Service In-Camp Training. All man here have to go through this cycle, and it is a form of commitment to our small country. By the way, this in-camp was also a good platform for net-working, as all of them (700 people) are either working or studying for higher education. I am just glad that lots of people still remembers me, after a long 3 years since we last met. I also met two superiors (officers in army) that told me they saw me at the World Internet Summit (WIS) 2007! Yes, their professions are army officers, and he is in-charged of discipline. I never would think that they are also interested in Internet Marketing and to my surprise, he has a website that is ranked in the top few of the SEO.

Before the in-camp that starts on monday, i was also in a mad rush to clear off my workload in office and to prepare for a business update presentation to my division's Vice-President of Sales & Marketing function. It was a mad rush, but it was all worth it. Meeting & presentation to him was good, with a lot of sharing in thoughts and experiences.

Now i am back and i will continue to blog and share my experiences and know-hows in this area of Success Essentials. Please free free to comment and questions and always welcomed. Let me be the one to resonate the whole world with Tips to Succcess. I will start by sharing with you my thoughts on setting the stage to become a leader. This topic came to my mind, as i was looking at how the army officers command and control the whole group of 700. Some officers failed and some passed with flying colors. This certainly applies to corporate success. Stay Tuned!

The Right Attitude - Towards Success

This article is what i have read from an old article in my scrapbook. Recently, came across it as i was tidying my room.

This may cause some of us to feel terrible, especially when we just started to read through the passage, but hang on, read and see for yourself.

THE RIGHT ATTITUDE:

A woman woke up one morning looked in the mirror and noticed she had only three strands of hair left on her head."Well", She said, " I think I'll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day, she looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two strands of hair left. "Hmm," she said, "I think I'II part my hair down the middle today."
She had a fun, happy time.

The next day, she found she had only one strand of hair left.
"Well," she said, "Today I'm going to wear my hair in a ponytail."

When there wasn't a single strand of hair on her head on the fourth day, she exclaimed: "Yay, I don't have o fix my hair today!"

Attitude is Everything!!!

Some of you may ask, are you sure about this.... I can tell you something, i am also having MPB, and curently seeking Minoxidil Treatment through the counter. But that has never stopped me..to be in a leading company..and i am the sales and technical specialist out in the market talking to end-users, Dean in University, Business Managers, etc...For those that know me, you should know what i said is the truth...cos i believe in having the RIGHT ATTITUDE..and no matter what happens in life, we will make it a better place...

Rgds,
Sean

PS: Will be away for 5 days from Mon onwards, as i will be back to serve the country..Will update my blog most prob next sat....Seeya....Bye

One Thing at A Time, Please

Multi-Tasking ia Bad for Health

Experts in United States are saying that doing more than one thing at a time us mentally damaging. People who want to sharpen their multi-tasking skills may now need to think twice about it.

The bottom line is that you can't simultaneously be thinking about your tax return and reading an essay, just as you can't talk to yourself about two things at once.

People may think otherwise, but it's a myth.

The expert added that habitual multi-tasking may also condition the brain to an overexcited state, making it difficult to focus. People lose the skill and the will to maintain concentration.

This can be easily seen from children from Developed and Developing nations. These kids are perpetually multitasking - from listening tto music on their MP3 players and watching TV, while talking on their mobile phones - and getting dismal grades in school as a result, goes the argument.

Similarly, this applies to career minded people like us. Always want to read All the Self-Improvement Books, go for all the Seminars, and do all types of work on the computer at the same time. This usually will cause a drop in efficiency andf quality of their work.

So bloggers, rember focus more on One Thing At A Time, Please....and you will find your Success earlier......

Rgds,
Sean

Tips on Persuasion - by Joel Bauer

Believed that most of you have had of The Persuasion Guru - Joel Bauer. Dint manage to attend his seminar conducted last month in Singapore, but did manage to read his article on the papers as well as an interview done by TV stations.

I shall try to summarise his version of Secrets of Persuasion as follows:

Persuasion is simply the Art of Connection! - whether emotionally, physically or mentally. Usually with an idea acrossed through a person. His theory is that If we try to tell someone something, he might just remember a little, but if we showed something, and the recipient go WOW, then there is an emotional connection.

Simple tips to Succed in Persuasion:

A) Be Unforgettable
Get people to noticed us by having a strategy to show that we are worth remembering. We need them to have a Take Home Message...towards the end of our presentation.

B) First Impressions Count
The way we dress, shake hands, and converse with others is the first step towards a positive and undeniable positive impression on them. It works to have an unique business cards or special ways of handling it out. It is the impression that we want others to rmbr. Rmbr: Be Different, Be Remembered.

C) Be Geniune
Reveal ourself and connect emotionally with people based on your values in life. Share with them your beliefs in financial stability, travelling ideas or time with family. People connect with you when you dare and willing to share personal views with them.

D) Be Flexible
Listen and respond to the people you talk to. A good negotiator senses their emotions, body languages and then finetunes and processed mentally what he or she is going to say. A good persuader moves with people as if they are one.

E) Create curiousity
Always think of ways to create curiousity in order to entice your audience. They have seen all the good presenters, sellers, etc...but no one is bored to find something interesting or intriguing...so be creative enough to create the sense of curiousity...

Success Is a Formula, Not Fantasy

Have you watched a film or a TV show, and see what makes people successful and happy. It's usually some almost magical quality, event or words that were being said.

In real life, the main difference between people who achieve and people who do not isn't as exciting or mysterious, but it is As Important. It is simply Conscientious. There is a technique that many successful people always use, especially when they are still not successful yet. The technique is known as MODELLING! Simple word - Strong Effect! Take Small Victories - To Become Successful!

SUCCESS = Small Victory + Small Victory + Small Victory + ......

One of the secrests of becoming successful is to Take Small Victories. Pursuing your goals is much like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. While you ultimately aim to seek the final outcome, we still have to work piece by piece.

Since we will spend most of our time trying to make progress, we must enjoy what we are doing in order to finish.

It is impt to take joy from the process, and use the small victories to fuel our continued efforts, to get closer to our final aim.

Enjoyed what you have done so far, but remind yourself by putting together all these experiences - good and bad - will take you to be the Best!

Effort - An Overrated Trait in getting Success

Hallo, i am today to continue where i left off on Effort in getting us Success.

Effort is one of the most overrated trait in producing success. People rank it as the best predictor of succcess when in reality it is one of the least significant factors. Effort, by itself, is a terrible predictor of outcomes because inefficient effort is a tremendous source of discouragement, leaving people to conclude that they can never succeed since even expending maximum effort did not produced results they they desire.

Imagine an employee that work so hard in his corporate work, pursuing the dreams of climbing up the corporate ladder. Since day one, he has work tremendously hard, staying back to work overtime and attend each and every company outing, with times cancelling his own personal appointments. Did he see results after 3-4 years? Nope! Unfortunately, he does not! He just got his normal salary increment that almost all above average stuff gets. He just did not get the promotion that will result in quantum leap in salary. Why? Cos he did not understand that it is impt to know what the boss really one.And it is not just by working hard...

So Rule of Thump is: "Work Smart, Not Hard (only)"

Secrets of Successful People - It's Not How Hard You Try

Hallo,

I have been reading quite alot of books and journals lately on the Secrets of Successful People. What do successful people have in common? Scientists worldwide have been studying the traits, beliefs and practices of successful people in all walks of life, but their research is normally reported in academic journals that are only read by other scientists or analysts.

Here i would like to share with you on the Secrets of Successful People in order for Us (not just you or me), to acquire a winning combination for achieving success in all areas of your life.

It's Not How Hard You Try:

Work hard and you will be rewarded. This is what we have always hear from parents, siblings, teachers and friends. It sound simple, isn't it??!

But remember what it was like studying for a test?! Some kids studied forever and did poorly. Some studied hardly at all and made great grades.

You can spend incredible effort inefficiently and gain nothing. Or, you can choose to spend modest efforts efficiently and be rewarded.

The purpose of what you do is to make progress, not just to expend ourself! Be Effective, Be Strategic, in whatever you do.

Be it in studying, research or corporate work environment. Does our superior want us to just work hard? Answer is NO!!! They have recently told me that i am a good man. Appreciate my efforts but he wants me to think more strategically. I was awaken!!! He is absolutely right! I have actually lost my strategic way of thinking, after i was absorbed into this rat race. I used to be very effective and strategic in my studies. Time for change!

Specially for those that are feeling the same way.
Hope this post will benefit those that are seeking to be successful.

Sean Chua
